Heard of a ‘keto fat bomb’ and haven’t a clue what it means? If you’ve recently joined the ketogenic revolution, then the fat bomb will be your new best friend. Designed to house at least 85% fat content, the fat bomb is the keto world’s answer to energy balls. But instead of being made with high carb ingredients like oats or dried fruit, they’re made almost entirely from high-fat, low-carb ingredients.

They can be eaten as a quick breakfast, mid-afternoon pick me up to stave off those cravings or a pre or post workout snack.

Chocolate Almond Fat Bomb

Ingredients:

1 cup almond butter

1 cup coconut oil

½ cup cacao powder

¼ cup coconut flour

Stevia to taste

10-15 whole almonds

 

Method:

  1. Melt almond butter & coconut oil in a saucepan.
  2. Add in cacao powder and coconut flour and mix well. Add stevia to taste.
  3. Allow mixture to cool before rolling into small balls. Allow them to set in refrigerator.

Strawberry Cheesecake Fat Bomb

Ingredients:

70g fresh or frozen strawberries

150g cream cheese softened

60g butter or coconut oil softened

10 drops liquid stevia (or to taste)

½ tbsp vanilla extract

 

Method:

  1. Allow cream cheese and butter to soften in a bowl.
  2. Place strawberries into a separate bowl and mash up.
  3. Add stevia and vanilla to the strawberries and mix well.
  4. Add to the bowl of butter and cream cheese and mix well.
  5. Spoon mixture into small molds and place in freezer for around 2 hours or until set

Lemon Fat Bomb

Ingredients:

200g coconut butter

¼ cup extra virgin coconut oil

Fresh lemon zest from 1-2 lemons

Stevia extract to taste (clear/coconut/lemo)

 

 

Method:

  1. Allow butter and coconut oil to soften before combining all ingredients.
  2. Spoon into small cupcake papers and place in fridge to set.

 

– Savoury Recipes – 

 

Bacon and Egg Fat Bomb

Ingredients:

2 large eggs

¼ cup butter or ghee, softened

2 tbsp mayonnaise

Ground black pepper to taste

¼ tsp salt to taste

4 large slices bacon

Method:

  1. Start by placing bacon on a tray and cooking in the oven on 190 degrees for 10-12 minutes, or until crispy.
  2. Then, hard boil the eggs – around 10 minutes should do it. Place eggs in cold water and peel when cooled down.
  3. Mash the butter and eggs together in a bowl before adding the mayonnaise, and then seasoning with salt and pepper. Mix well. Place in the fridge for 20-30 minutes or until it’s solid.
  4. Crumble the bacon into small pieces and place in a bowl. Take the mixture out of the fridge and mould into small balls. Then, roll each ball in the bacon pieces and place on a tray. Store in refrigerator!

 

Bacon and Guacamole Fat Bomb

Ingredients:

½ large avocado

¼ cup butter or ghee, softened

2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 small chilli pepper, finely chopped

½ small white onion, diced

1 tbsp fresh lime juice

Ground black pepper to taste

¼ tsp salt (or to taste)

102 tbsp chopped coriander

4 large slices bacon

Method:

  1. Start by placing bacon on a tray and cooking in the oven on 190 degrees for 10-12 minutes, or until crispy.
  2. Place avocado, butter, chilli, garlic, coriander and lime juice into a bowl, season ith salt and pepper, and mash together.
  3. Place in the fridge for 20-30 minutes or until it’s solid.
  4. Crumble the bacon into small pieces and place in a bowl. Take the mixture out of the fridge and mould into small balls. Then, roll each ball in the bacon pieces and place on a tray. Store in refrigerator!

 

Mediterranean Fat Bomb

Ingredients:

¼ cup cream cheese

¼ cup butter or ghee, softened

2-3 tbsp fresh herbs (basil, thyme and oregano)

4 pieces sun-dried tomatoes

4 olives pitted

2 cloves garlic, crushed

Ground black pepper

¼ tsp salt (or to taste)

5 tbsp grated parmesan cheese

Method:

  1. Add butter and cream cheese in a bowl and allow to soften, before mashing with a fork. Add the chopped sun-dried tomatoes and chopped kalamata olives.
  2. Then, throw in the herbs, crushed garlic and season with salt and pepper. Mix well and place in the fridge until hard.
  3. Remove the mixture and roll into small balls. Toss into the grated parmesan cheese to finish. Store in fridge!
